Geeksquad of One
Are you sick of dealing with computer viruses and crashes? Would you prefer to rely on yourself to fix your computer rather than take it to the nearest kid you know or some store to charge you an arm and a leg?
If you'd like to learn how to keep your computer in tip-top shape, then this event is definitely for you.

lesson plan
1. Discuss the role hardware plays in your computer's performance.
2. Defragmenting your drive (windows only) - what is it and why should I do it?
3. Malware/Virus prevention/removal. Windows tools as well as linux LiveCDs for the tough to remove options.
4. Better alternatives for fewer computing headaches
facilitator experience
I have taught myself how to do all these things over the last 10 years, many times from (serious) mistakes that caused me to start from scratch. I am a member of the Lockergnome community where I learned much of what I know, and now focus my time on using ubuntu linux and trying to help my friends and family convert for fewer problems. I also provide support for coworkers in need of solutions.
intended audience
For those who consider themselves computers novices or think they know nothing about computers but want to learn how to do things themselves and not rely on others.
For those looking for better computing experiences with less headaches.
other resources suggested by the facilitator
kaspersky liveCD for virus removal.
Ubuntu liveCD to show off linux and how one might best use it.
Attendees should bring their personal laptop if able, but I will provide emailed links to all mentioned resources.
