details

lesson plan

This lesson is divided into three parts:

Part one:
-Introduce the history of diapers: what our grandmas and mothers used in the past.
-What types are currently available on the market, and what are the pros and cons of each type: disposable diapers, pocket diapers, all-in-one diapers, fitted diapers, diaper covers, etc.
- Demonstration of how to use a reusable diaper: how to put it on a baby and how to care for it as clothing.

Part two:
Calculate the cost of diapers. Each baby is unique and each mother's choice is personal; we will provide a general formula with some tweaks for individuals. Formula inputs include the baby's age, number of changes per day, diaper brand, diaper size, and how frequently laundry gets done. Considering how much Mom would like to save per month on diapers, we can quantitatively compare each case to find her best choice.

Part three:
Diapers in your community and the environment.
Learn how much your community is paying for hauling and disposal of diapers. Consider whether or not it is healthy to carry human waste around your community. How you can help preserve resources and prevent waste?
