Is gluten-free life getting you down? Are you missing some of your old favorite foods, like pizza that actually tastes good? Do you know a lot of gluten-free folks and feel confused about what's safe to feed them? Come learn the ins and outs of the gluten-free diet and how to make some excellent baked goods that both GF and non-GF folks will love.

details

lesson plan

-We'll start with a discussion about what GF folks can and can't eat and what to look for when shopping for groceries, as well as resources that are helpful for the GF diet.
-Next we'll talk about gluten-free flours and pre-mixed flour blends, some of the pros and cons of both, and tips for minimizing frustration and maximizing positive outcomes in the kitchen.
-I'll demonstrate how to make a pizza crust and if possible we'll make mini pizzas and bake them in the class!
-Samples of gluten-free baked goods and recipes will be provided as well.

facilitator experience

Prior to becoming gluten-free in January of 2009, I spent countless hours in the kitchen cooking and baking both personally and professionally. Since transitioning to a gluten-free diet I have experienced my share of ups and downs with GF baking, and at times felt hopeless about being able to make some of my old favorite baked goods. With a little perseverance I've rediscovered the joys of home baking and am excited to share some of what I've learned.

intended audience

Anyone who wants to learn more about gluten-free cooking and baking.
