Through Movement: Dance To Anything, and Why
Operating on the principle that we dance for three reasons
1) To enjoy our physicality, by exploring our bodies through movement
2) To enjoy music, by exploring how we can hear, understand, and relay it through movement, and
3) To enjoy other people, by exploring our connections to them in physical space, timing, mood, and more...through movement
this workshop aims to talk, walk, and (eventually) dance through some of the most positive aspects of casual/leisure dancing, some of the hang-ups that prevent people from enjoying it fully (or doing it at all), and some of the ways in which we can find in ourselves not only the ability to dance to anything, but the desire to do so! Casual, no-pressure, non-judgmental workshop culminating in a short, impromptu dance-party for those interested. Participants welcome to bring a favorite song of any genre - especially one to which we might not normally dance!

facilitator experience
A smattering of limited dance training - mostly just a die-hard dancer-to-anything since early youth. Experienced in dancing in a variety of social, solo, or even non-dance settings, I am a firm believer in the joy of movement, music, and mirth with fellow merry-makers...and like to teach, anything. And am often told I'm not so bad at it, either.
Experience: have a "skill." Want to share it. Please come!
intended audience
Foot-tappers scared of "social dancing," those who have done a lot of social dancing and may have negative feelings about The Cool Factor, being trapped in one genre or with one move, posing, or anything else , bedroom-dancing-phenoms excited to share their Bad Dancing Confidence, those with dance training eager to lend a tip, and anyone else who thinks that dancing should be fun and easy, that music is great for dancing, and that everyone should be able to enjoy it!
