Make your own damn T-Shirt! Home Screen Printing
Ever wanted to learn how to screen print? Come learn how to print a design on t-shirts, bags, other garments, or just make paper prints.
We will be using blank silkscreens and plastic stencils, as they are the most cost-effective way for a large group to screen print. Other silkscreen methods, such as screen filler and photo emulsion will be shown.
Images will be provided. Feel free to bring your own high-contrast images in! Make sure to bring a shirt, or a bag in to print on, or print on our large sheet of fabric and cut a patch out for yourself.

lesson plan
A short demonstration will be given on what a silkscreen is and how screen prints are made. Participants will be shown three methods to prepare an image for screen printing: Stencil, screen filler, and photo emulsion. I will print one of my own silkscreen images as a demo. Participants will then be given plastic sheets and x-acto knives to begin cutting their stencils. If participants have not brought their own images, i will bring a variety of images for them to use.
After the stencils are cut, participants will be assisted in printing a test-print on paper first, then will get to print their image on a garment.
facilitator experience
I have been teaching printmaking, design and photography to high school students for 3 years.
intended audience
This workshop is intended for teens through adults, as it will require fine-motor skills to cut the stencils. Younger children are welcome, but may find it difficult to participate.
