learn to knit!
Participants will learn how to make their own cheap and homemade knitting needles out of a dowel and then will learn the two basic stitches in knitting. Yarn and homemade knitting needles will be provided, and participants will spend the bulk of the time practicing knitting in this hands-on workshop.

lesson plan
In the first part of the workshop, participants will learn how they can make homemade knitting needles out of dowels. The facilitators will then demonstrate casting on, knitting and purling. Participants will spend the bulk of the workshop practicing these techniques, with hands-on help from the facilitators.
facilitator experience
Mahsa has been knitting for 5 years now and has completed numerous scarves and washcloths. Christy has been knitting since 1999 and has made lots of fun projects, including socks, gloves, mittens, hats and more. Christy has taught many people how to knit, and both Mahsa and Christy have experience teaching and facilitating.
