Who needs yarn? Knitting with Recycled Materials
In this workshop we will explore ways to knit with non-traditional materials made from recycled household objects. Plastic shopping bags, old t-shirts and pants, the tape from music cassettes and many other common items can be used to make creative and durable knit projects. We will cut and tie these materials to create balls of recycled "yarn" and begin knitting re-usable bags together, while we brainstorm other possible materials and finished products for future projects. Recycle-knitting reduces trash both by keeping materials out of the garbage in the first place, and by creating carriers that reduce the need for disposable bags in future.
I will supply recyclable materials, scissors, and knitting needles, but participants are also welcome and encouraged to bring items they may want to knit with.
Basic knitting skills are a plus, but I am also open to giving basic knitting instruction during the workshop.

facilitator experience
I'm a former middle school teacher and current student at Harvard Divinity School who loves to knit and teach knitting to avoid doing my readings for class!
intended audience
Anyone with basic knitting skills. (I'm open to doing some basic knitting instruction during the workshop, but won't have time to show everyone! In my experience, there are also often more experienced knitters is workshops such as these who are willing to do some one-on-one coaching with newbies.)
