Starting a Worker Cooperative
In this workshop, longtime members from a local construction cooperative and WORC'N (Worker-Owned and Cooperative Network) will describe briefly their worker cooperatives and other democratically-run companies in the Boston area and nationally, and delve into what participants may be interested in considering about potential cooperatives.

lesson plan
We plan to discuss and examine the following questions:
What is a worker owned cooperative? How does it differ from other forms of workplaces?
How do workers actually own and run their own business? We'll offer various models based on real businesses in the Boston area.
What's the value of worker cooperatives? Why are they useful in today's global economic crises? We'll be looking at national and international examples of creating democratically run community based economic development.
facilitator experience
The facilliators work in worker-cooperatives and the cooperative movement, and have advised coops and led discussions of this topic for more than 25 years.
intended audience
People interested in democratic and community based economic models and anyone who's ever thought about getting together with friends or co-workers and starting their own business.
